An Akron woman accused of driving her car into a crowd of people following a fight at a local bar Wednesday night has turned herself in to Akron Police. Twenty-four-year-old Lashawndra Weems was booked into the Summit County Jail Thursday and has been charged with six counts of felonious assault.
Weems allegedly drove her car into a crowd that had gathered to watch a fight involving four women in a parking lot on the 800 block of Donald Avenue. Six people were sent to the hospital as a result of the incident.
Section 2903.11 of the Ohio Revised Code defines “felonious assault” as knowingly causing “serious physical harm to another or to another’s unborn” or knowingly causing or attempting to cause “physical harm to another or to another’s unborn by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance.” If convicted of felonious assault, a felony of the second degree, Weems faces up to eight years in prison and a mandatory license suspension of at least three years for each count.
